South Africa occupies the southernmost part of the African continent. Its surface area is 1219090 km2 and is packed with majestic mountains; beautiful valleys; wide, sandy beaches and fairyland forests. There are also rolling grasslands; savanna bushveld; more plant species than the whole of Europe and abundant bird and wildlife species, including the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino).

The Western Cape, which covers an area of 129.370 square km, lies in the southwest of South Africa and borders on the Atlantic Ocean in the western half and on the Indian Ocean in the southern half. The scenery, with the folding mountains of the Swartberg and Cederberg mountain ranges, is absolutely breathtaking.
